Inferno Soccer Comes up Short Against Wisconsin Lutheran, 8-1

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Alverno Inferno Soccer team fell short of a win against Wisconsin Lutheran on a gloomy Thursday afternoon, 8-1.
 
The Inferno started slow with only one shot in the first half while Wisconsin Lutheran tallied twenty three shots on goal. After regrouping at the half, the Inferno, down four goals to none, the Inferno tallied eight shots on goal with a solo goal from Mamah Konneh, her third of the season.
 
The first half scoring started quickly with Wisconsin Lutheran scoring the first goal five minutes into the first half. The second goal for Wisconsin Lutheran came just three minutes after the first while the third and fourth goals of the half came at thirteen minutes and seventeen minutes in. The rest of the half was quiet for both teams before the horn blew at halftime.
 
The second half started with Wisconsin Lutheran taking a 4-0  lead over the Inferno. At four minutes into the second half, goalie Emily Anguiano was replaced in goal by Georgia Wise. Following the substitution, a penalty kick was awarded to Wisconsin Lutheran as they scored their fifth goal of the day. Goals six and seven were both scored within a minute of each other, tallying the total to seven for the Warriors, and zero for the Inferno. With twenty-five minutes remaining, Wisconsin Lutheran added one more goal to the total until Mamah Konneh scored a goal to take the shutout off the board.
 
Emily Anguiano and Georgia Wise combined for a total of 23 saves on the day. While six Inferno players were credited with 90 minutes of play.
 
Alverno (0-7-0, 0-5-0) will travel to Lisle, Illinois for their next match against Benedictine University on September 30th at 1:00 p.m. at the Benedictine Sports Complex.
