ELMHURST, Ill. -- The Alverno College women's basketball team suffered an 81-56 loss at Elmhurst Wednesday afternoon on the road.
Three players scored in double figures for the Inferno (2-8), while four put up 10-or-more-points for Elmhurst (6-6). Sophomore
Riley Spencer scored 15 points off the bench to lead the team, while
Kyla Jamerson and
Dionna Woodson tallied a combined 25 points respectively.
Elmhurst raced ahead to a 13-3 lead halfway through and finished the first quarter ahead, 22-11.
Morgan Whitten started the second with a 3-pointer to cut the lead 24-14. Jamerson scored Alverno's next basket with a 3-pointer at the 7:12 mark.
Haley Youngblood's layup made it a 33-19 game with 2:28 until halftime. Elmhurst would maintain a double-digit lead for the remainder of the half.
The entire second half was much of the same as Elmhurst stayed in front, increasing its lead to as many as 31 points, as the Bluejays ran away with the win.
Alverno stays on the road closing out 2023 at Beloit on Saturday, December 30 at 3 p.m.
