Alverno College fall at home to Aurora University, 92-50

 MILWAUKEE – Alverno College basketball fell 92-50 to the Spartans of Aurora University this evening at home inside Reiman Gymnasium.
   
Freshman Camiria Sardin (Racine, Wis.) and junior Mya Roberts (Grand Rapids, Minn.) each finished with 12 points to lead the Infernos. Freshman Kyla Jamerson (Milwaukee, Wis.) had 10 points and two rebounds.
 
Both teams battled for the lead in the opening minutes with the score tied at five all with 8:31 left in the first quarter. Alverno then edged the Spartans taking a 9-7 lead at the 6:57 mark. Aurora answered with a layup by Gabrielle Wolff to tie the game for the second time at the 6:30 mark. The Infernos then took its second lead of the quarter on a layup by Morgan Whitten to make the score 11-9. The score was then tied again for the third time when Gabrielle Wolff secured a three pointers to make the score 16 all. The Spartans continued to add points taking a 24-20 lead at the end of the first quarter.
 
Back-to-back baskets by the Spartans with 9:23 to go in the first half to give Aurora University the lead for good. Aurora added 27 points controlling the second quarter. The Spartans held Alverno to only five points, trailing 51-25 at the half.   Aurora University then added 41 total points over the second half to cruise to a 92-50 victory.

Alverno turned the ball over 23 times and shot just 32.1% (17-53) from the field. Meanwhile, the Spartans were red hot all night, shooting 73.7% (14-19) from the free throw line.
 
Macys Kocen led all scorers with 31 points, four rebounds and three assists.
  
Alverno College will return to action on Wednesday, February 1st as they host the Knights of St. Norbert College inside Reiman Gymnasium. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
