MILWAUKEE – The Alverno Basketball team hosted the Edgewood Eagles in a Saturday evening Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference tilt inside Reiman Gymnasium, and fell to the Eagles by the score of 72-52.

Alverno played well in the opening half, which included a second quarter in which the Inferno outscored the Eagles by a 16-12 margin. Edgewood led 31-28 at the half, but pulled away in the second half for the victory.

The Inferno had three scorers in double-figures including a team-best 13 points by freshmen
Kyla Jamerson and
Camiria Sardin, while junior
Mya Roberts connected on 11 points on the night. Sardin ended the night with a team-leading 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season, including seven on the defensive glass.

Roberts had a team-best two steals and was tied for the team lead with two assists, while Jamerson along with Roberts had three rebounds apiece. Tied for the team lead in assists with Roberts were freshmen
Riley Spencer and
Morgan Whitten.

Spencer had four points and a steal with three rebounds, while Whitten had a three-pointer on the game with one steal. Sophomore
Jewel Zahradka had three rebounds and one assist, classmate
Morgan Golabowski had three points and four boards. Freshman
Tyee Rhodes had three points, while classmate
Mariah Smith had a bucket with one assist, one rebound and one steal. Sophomore
Olivia Daugherty had one rebound as did freshman
Kelia Bolds, while
Victoria Parra also saw action on the night.

Both sides exchanged early baskets with Sardin lifting the lid on scoring to knot the score at two. Roberts trimmed a 10-2 deficit to five points with a three-pointer, but the Inferno were not able to get any closer than four points but trailed by seven at 19-12 after the opening quarter.

Roberts drilled a three ball to open play in the second quarter to spark the Inferno, Sardin scored to pull Alverno within two. Jamerson sank a jumper at the 5:13 mark of the half to make the score 22-21 in favor of the Eagles, but Edgewood extended its lead back to eight before Smith connected on a jumper with three minutes to go to stop the run. Jamerson hit a shot followed by two from Edgewood before Whitten connected on a three-pointer to make the score 31-28 heading into the break.

Sardin scored the first bucket of the second half to get the Inferno within one point but Edgewood began to build a lead back up, that swelled to 15 and eventually took that lead into the fourth quarter at 56-41.

Alverno scored the first four points on back-to-back jumpers by Spencer to pull the Inferno back within 11 but Edgewood went on a run to take a 21-point lead with 1:32 left in the game before winning by 20 at 72-52.

Alverno (2-12, 0-8 NACC) will be back on the road for its next three contests beginning with Illinois Tech on January 18, Benedictine and Wisconsin Lutheran will follow before the Inferno return home on January 28 to take on Aurora beginning at 7 p.m. inside Reiman Gymnasium.
