MILWAUKEE – The Alverno softball team wrapped up conference play on Sunday and Monday, as the Inferno played single games against both Wisconsin Lutheran and Concordia Chicago. The Inferno fell to the Warriors by a 12-0 score on Sunday, and followed that up with a 14-2 loss on Monday.

Over the two-day stretch, the Inferno were led by senior
Natalie Akin with three hits over six at bats, while also scoring one run. Sophomore
Lily Kostka and freshman
Cora Younk each had an RBI, while junior
Izzy Torres scored one run following a single. Sophomore
Lexi Hess and freshman
Samantha Vinti each had base hits over the stretch, along with sophomore
Andrea Ramirez, who tallied her hit on Sunday.

Sunday vs. Wisconsin Lutheran
Against Wisconsin Lutheran, Alverno registered four hits including a pair by Akin to go along with one by Hess and another by Ramirez.

Akin got the start in the circle for the Inferno and struck out two batters over three innings of work. Torres pitched the final inning for Alverno and struck out a pair, while yielding one run over her frame of relief.

Wisconsin Lutheran scored two runs in both the first and second innings before adding seven runs in the third frame. The Warriors tacked on one more run in the bottom of the fourth en route to the shutout victory.

Monday vs. Concordia Chicago
The Inferno played their final home conference game of the year on Monday with a make-up against Concordia Chicago, with the Cougars taking the game by a 14-2 victory.

After Concordia Chicago took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the Inferno rallied with a two-run frame in the bottom half of the inning. Akin reached on a single with one down, followed by back-to-back singles by Torres and Vinti to load the bases.

Kostka was up next and connected on a single to even the score at one. Younk chased in the go-ahead run on a groundout to put Alverno up by a 2-1 score.

The Cougars answered back to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the second. The Cougars tacked on another 11 runs in the top of the fourth to take a 14-2 lead, before closing out the game to register the win.

The second game, as a result of an injury shortening the game for Alverno, will result in a 7-0 forfeit win for Concordia Chicago.

Alverno finishes the season, and returns the near-entirety of its roster heading into the spring 2023 season. First-year head coach
Shawn Jarmuz, will add to the roster as the team looks to return to a full 40-game slate of action for the first time since 2019.
