Sunday vs. Dominican
The Inferno not only battled the stars on Sunday afternoon, but also the weather. After Dominican jumped out to a four-run lead in the top of the first, the skies opened as Hess reached base with a single and moved up to second on a wild pitch before a three-hour rain delay halted the game with Akin in the batter's box.
Â
For the day against the Stars, Kostka and Hess led the Inferno with two hits apiece, while Kostka reached base an additional plate appearance with a walk. Sophomore
Andrea Ramirez connected on a solo home run in the opener for the lone run of the game as she picked up her second career home run.
Â
Akin, Torres, and Vinti all had singles as well on Sunday afternoon; while junior
Ziri Hernandez-Bustos registered the first hit of her collegiate career with an opposite-field single just inside the chalk down the right field line. Throughout the afternoon, Ramirez, Torres, and junior
Ashley Flores all reached base on walks as well.
Â
Defensively, Ramirez led Alverno with 11 putouts, while Vinti had seven behind the plate. Torres led with six defensive assists.
Â
Akin led Alverno in the circle as she struck out four batters and allowed just four earned runs over 5 2/3 innings of work between the two games. Torres struck out two batters over 4 1/3 innings of work against the Stars.
