VERONA, Wis. – The Alverno softball team opened up Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play on Monday afternoon with a league doubleheader against the Edgewood Eagles at Ceniti Park. The Eagles picked up the sweep by the scores of 13-0 and 10-0.

Alverno had a pair of hits in the opener on base knocks by junior
Izzy Torres and freshman
Samantha Vinti.

Torres got the start in the opener and tossed 61 pitches with one strikeout as she tossed 2 1/3 innings. Senior
Natalie Akin retired five batters to close out the contest and did so on 31 pitches.

Akin got the start in the second game of the afternoon and went one inning before Torres returned to the circle in relief during the second inning and put together her best outing of the year as she tossed three innings and did not allow an earned run while striking out a quarter of Eagles.

Alverno (0-6, 0-2 NACC) will host the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons on Tuesday afternoon at the Alverno Softball Field for its home opener, scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. in Milwaukee.
