MILWAUKEE – The Alverno basketball team wrapped up the fall semester portion of its conference schedule, hosting the Edgewood Eagles inside the Reiman Gymnasium on Saturday evening. The Eagles won the matchup by a score of 59-34.

The Inferno were led by junior
Angie Reutgen, who notched 11 points, with two assists and two rebounds to go along with three steals. Classmate
Grace Lupumba led the team with 12 rebounds, and also scored nine points as she fell just shy of a double-double. Lupumba also added one block and one steal.

Senior
Dom Hudson had five points on 2-of-6 shooting, while also corralling five boards, one assist, one block, the first of her Inferno career, and one steal. Sophomore
Courtney Zarda connected on one long-range shot, and had five points, while leading the team with three assists to go along with two rebounds. Freshman
Lauryn Hilliard had two points with five rebounds, and two assists.

Freshman
Jewel Zahradka had one points and one assist, while securing four rebounds. Freshman
Morgan Golabowski also had one point with one rebounds, and also added one assist.
Both teams were even through the first 12 points at 6-6 with 6:25 left in the opening period. After a lengthy scoreless stretch between both sides, Reutgen connected on a jumper to break the drought before Zarda gave Alverno a four-point lead at 10-4 with just over a minute to go. The Inferno led by a 12-8 score after 10 minutes of play.

Edgewood opened the second quarter with nine unanswered points to take a 17-12 advantage, Golabowski had a free throw to open the scoring for the Inferno. Another seven points by the Eagles as Edgewood led by 11 at 24-13. Hilliard had a layup before the Eagles closed out the half with a free throw to take a 25-15 lead into the halftime break.

Hudson opened the second half with a three-pointer after an offensive rebound and pass by Zahradka. The Eagles outscored the Inferno by a 13-6 margin in the third quarter to take a 38-21 lead into the final quarter.

The Eagles started the fourth quarter with five points to open a 43-21 lead, Lupumba scored a layup to get the Inferno back within 20. The Inferno got the score to within 18 points after a Reutgen three-pointer but the Eagles stretched their lead to 25 late in the frame to come away with a 59-34 win.

Alverno (1-7, 0-4 NACC) will wrap up the home schedule for 2021 on Tuesday evening against non-conference Lawrence at 7 p.m. inside Reiman Gymnasium.
