Soccer Season Comes to a Close with Senior Day vs. St. Norbert

MILWAUKEE – The Alverno soccer season came to a close on Thursday afternoon as the Inferno played host to the St. Norbert Green Knights in their first-ever meeting as conference opponents.

Prior to the contest, the Inferno honored their two seniors playing in their final collegiate games; Angela Chobanian and Aimee Espino. Both seniors played the full 90 minutes for the Inferno, as Chobanian ended the season playing every minute and ending her career 10th on the all-time minutes played list with 5,224, and 10th all-time in games started with 58.

Chobanian finished her four-year career with eight goals and eight assists for 24 points, to go along with 43 shots, and 29 shots on goal. She also finished her career with one game-winning goal, and was 1-for-1 all-time on penalty kick chances.

Espino played in 25 career contests over three seasons with the Inferno as she played a career-high 874 minutes during her final season. She tallied three career shots, including two as a senior that resulted in her first career goal earlier this season against Mount Mary.

On Thursday, Chobanian took Alverno's lone first-half shot that was wide of the target, while sophomore Georgia Wise put one shot on frame in the second half that was denied.

Defensively, junior Kenzie Bermudez capped off her season with an 18-save effort as she caps off her season with 188 saves, which is fourth-most on the single-season list. Her season total now gives her 464 for her career, which keeps her in third place on the all-time saves list.

The Inferno defensively held the Green Knights off the board through the first 26 minutes, but St. Norbert broke through with two goals in the span of 73 seconds to take a two-goal lead. The Green Knights buried a goal that glance just off the hands of Bermudez to take a three-goal lead into the halftime break.

The Green Knights tallied three more times with goals in the 52nd, 55th, and 68th minutes, to cap off the scoring at six.

Alverno finishes the season with a 2-9-1 overall record, and a 0-13-0 mark in conference play.
