MILWAUKEE – The Alverno basketball team fell at home on Thursday evening in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup to the Benedictine Eagles by the score of 69-38 inside Reiman Gymnasium.

The Inferno were led by junior
Alicia Hornbuckle with 13 points, while classmate
Dom Hudson had 11 points on the night. Freshman
Keeshya Bellows had six points, while freshmen
Eniya Madden and
Angie Reutgen both finished the game with four points apiece.

Hornbuckle led the Inferno with six rebounds, while Bellows had five boards on the night. Sophomore
Brittney Hondel also chipped in with four rebounds in 15 minutes of play. Bellows had all three of Alverno's blocks, while Madden led the Inferno with four steals followed by Hudson with three steals on the game. Madden led the Inferno with six of their 12 assists.

Alverno scored the first basket of the night on a jumper by Hornbuckle, but the league-leading Eagles flexed their muscle with 16 unanswered to close the quarter. Alverno scored the first two points of the second quarter on a pair from the stripe by Hornbuckle, but Benedictine outscored Alverno 19-12 in the stanza to take a 35-14 lead into the halftime break.

In the third, Benedictine continued to connect on its shots with another 16 points as the Eagles ultimately finished the night with a 27-of-63 night from the field for a 42.9% overall, while also connecting on 30.8% from beyond the arc, going 8-for-26 throughout the game.

In the fourth quarter, Alverno was able to get some offense going with a 16-point effort including seven points from Hornbuckle. Benedictine still managed to outscore Alverno by a pair in the fourth to run away with the 69-38 victory.

Alverno (3-16, 3-11 NACC) will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, when the team visits Dominican in River Forest, Illinois for a 4:15 pm start at the Igini Sports Forum.
