Inferno Flustered by Falcons in Midweek Matchup

MEQUON, Wis. – The Alverno basketball team travelled to the R. John Buuck Fieldhouse for the Inferno's lone matchup with Concordia Wisconsin of the season. The Inferno were unable to keep pace with the Falcon offense, falling by an 82-50 margin.
 
Alverno was led by senior Sara Redlin, who tallied a game-high 15 points on five three-pointers in nine attempts. Redlin also had two rebounds and one assist. Freshman Keeshya Bellows notched a double-double as she picked up 10 points and 11 rebounds while recording another four blocks to move her into third in the conference with 18 heading into Saturday's matchup.
 
Junior Alicia Hornbuckle had a game-high three assists while adding 11 points and one rebounds on the game, while classmate Mikayla Tessay had two rebounds and two points to go along with two assists. Sophomore Brittney Hondel and freshman Eniya Madden each had six points with Madden adding a pair of assists to her stat line. Junior Dom Hudson pulled down four rebounds in addition to four by Hondel.
 
Alverno led on an early jumper by Bellows off of a pass by Madden before Concordia tied the score at two and then took a 4-2 advantage. Bellows connected on her second field goal of the night to tie the score at four, but the Falcons responded with 13 unanswered to take a 17-4 lead and went on to outscore the Inferno by a 27-11 margin in the opening quarter.
 
The two sides played evenly in the second quarter, with the Inferno and Falcons even at 14 points apiece. Hornbuckle led Alverno with five points in the second quarter, while Redlin had one of her three pointers in the stanza as well. Bellows, Madden and Tessay rounded out the scoring with two points apiece in the quarter, as Alverno trailed by a 41-25 score at the break.
 
In the third quarter, it was Concordia Wisconsin to add to its lead with a 19-10 score in the 10-minute frame, before capping off the effort with a 22-15 pace in the fourth quarter for the 82-50 victory.
 
Alverno (1-6, 1-3 NACC) will look to get back on the winning track this Saturday, when the team plays at home against the Marian Sabres for a 7 p.m. start inside Reiman Gymnasium.
