MILWAUKEE – The Alverno soccer season came to a close on Wednesday afternoon as the Inferno hosted the Benedictine Eagles and fell by a 10-0 score on the Alverno Soccer Field.
Freshman Kenzie Bermudez wrapped up her season with a 19-save effort to give her a first-year total of 230, which is the second highest for an Inferno goalkeeper in a single season.
The Inferno were unable to muster any offense against a stout Eagle defense and finished the year with 217 shots on the year led by sophomore Shaye Wolfe with a team-high 68 shots. Wolfe also finished with the team lead in goals with 10, assists with eight and points with 28. Freshman Katie Shipley led the team with two game-winning goals, including her second of the season on Tuesday in the team's conference win over Rockford.
Benedictine outscored Alverno by six in the opening half, before adding four more in the second stanza for the 10-goal victory. The Eagles outshot the Inferno by a 41-0 margin, while corner kicks were also in favor of the Eagles at a 10-0 advantage.
Alverno finishes the season with five wins for the second straight campaign, which included the team's first conference victory since the 2016 season. Benedictine's win, coupled with a Concordia Chicago loss and a loss by Marian clinches the sixth and final seed in the 2019 NACC Women's Soccer Championship, which begins on Sunday, November 3.
