MILWAUKEE, WIS.—Alverno College basketball (4-11, 1-9 NACC) fell in NACC action to Concordia Chicago Saturday evening.

Concordia Chicago started the contest with a quick 9-3 lead. After a three point field goal from Mackenzie Mathies, the Inferno cut the Cougar lead to three at 9-7. Three consecutive layups for the Inferno saw the score knotted at 13 with 2:09 left in the first quarter. The score was tied at 18 heading into the second quarter.

Both teams continued to trade basket for basket to begin the second quarter. Concordia controlled a slim 31-27 advantage at the 1:57 mark. A layup just before halftime gave the Cougars a 36-29 lead into the intermission break.

In the third quarter, Concordia Chicago extended their effort off a layup at the 7:13 mark. A layup from Gabby Hood shrunk the Cougar advantage to seven with 3:46 left in the third quarter. Two free throws from Karli Selear helped the inferno effort as they headed into the final quarter trailing 58-47.

Concordia Chicago started the quarter with a 10-0 run. Gabby Hood got the Inferno scoring started off a layup. The strong start for the Cougars helped Concordia Chicago take the victory by a final score of 76-57.

The Inferno scoring was led by junior Mackenzie Mathies who finished on the day with 20 points. Senior Gabby Hood collected 15 points and eight rebounds while Karli Selear grabbed nine rebounds.

"I think we played very well today. I am very pleased with our effort," Said Head Coach Jessica Ott.

Alverno College basketball hits the road to face Rockford University on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m.
