Box Score MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College limited visiting Aurora University to 13 second-half points in route to a 68-37 drubbing of the Spartans for the Inferno's fourth straight win.
Alverno (8-9, 8-4 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference) trailed 8-0 in the early going to Aurora (3-15, 2-11 NACC) and didn't manage its first lead until a fast-break layup by Gabby Hood gave the Inferno a 19-18 lead at the five-minute mark of the second quarter.
The basket sparked a 12-6 run to close out the half as Alverno led, 29-24, at intermission.
The Inferno outscored the Spartans 20-8 in the third quarter and 19-5 in the fourth for the hosts' best defensive effort of the season. Alverno dominated the inside game with a 48-35 advantage on the glass, 40-16 points in the paint and tallied 10 blocks.
Mollie Mikyska led the way with season-bests of 19 points and 14 rebounds -- both also game highs -- for her first double-double of the year. The Inferno's all-time rebounding leader surpassed the milestone of 600 rebounds with her ninth board of the contest. The senior also blocked three shots on the night.
Hood added 14 points, a game-high eight assists and six steals while Mackenzie Mathies scored 11 and Katelyn Bartlett added nine points and nine rebounds.
Alverno shot 43 percent from the floor -- the third-straight game over 40 percent -- and limited Aurora to under 24 percent.
Alyssa Brems led the visitors with eight points.
The Inferno will stake its winning streak against first-place Wisconsin Lutheran College Thursday night. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. inside Reiman Gymnasium.
