RIVER FOREST, Illinois -- Host Concordia University Chicago defeated Alverno College, 84-78, Saturday afternoon in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action.

The Inferno (2-3, 0-2 NACC) trailed by eight with just over two minutes to play yet scored the next five points to trim the Cougar lead to just three with 1:29 left as Mollie Mikyska connected for her game-high 23rd point of the game.

Concordia Chicago (2-0, 1-0) reclaimed its eight-point cushion, however, after a pair of Alverno turnovers led directly to Cougar scores and handed the Inferno its second league loss. The visitors turned the ball over 29 times in the contest which led to 24 points for the hosts.

Julie Gallegos and Mackenzie Mathies added 11 points apiece for the Inferno. Mikyska registered her first double-double of the season as she hauled in a game-best 12 rebounds, while Gabby Hood added 11 to aid the Inferno's 56-38 advantage on the glass.

The Cougars were led by Angelik Yong's 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Alverno returns home for its next contest, a Wednesday evening game versus visiting Edgewood College. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. in Reiman Gymnasium.
