Box Score MILWAUKEE -- A dominant 32-4 first quarter paved the way for Alverno College's 75-31 rout of visiting Mount Mary University in the season opener for the crosstown rivals Friday evening.
The Inferno (1-0) scored the first 24 points of the contest before the Blue Angels (0-1) finally got on the scoreboard with 3 minutes, 32 seconds left in the opening period.
Alverno led 40-9 at the half, and 53-15 at the end of the third quarter before outscoring Mount 22-16 in the fourth.
Mollie Mikyska led all scorers with 23 points on 11-of-16 shooting, while Brooke McBain added 10 and Tessa Mersberger nine for the Inferno, which shot 40 percent from the field.
Gabby Hood registered a game-high nine rebounds, Julie Gallegos dished out seven assists to lead all players, while Nala Mudd had five of Alverno's 17 steals.
The Blue Angels were led by Shandrieka Richardson's 13 points, and Becky Onan added 11.
The win keeps the Inferno perfect in the series, now 15-0 all-time against Mount Mary.
After tonight's nonconference tune-up, Alverno dives right in to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play at Benedictine University, Tuesday at 6 p.m. down in Lisle, Illinois.
