MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College shot 54 percent from the field en route to an 84-75 victory over visiting Lakeland College Wednesday night in Reiman Gymnasium.

The Inferno (4-11, 2-8 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference) snapped a four-game skid with the team's highest shooting percentage -- which included 7-of-14 from the 3-point arc -- and top scoring output of the season.

Tessa Mersberger scored a career-high 19 points to lead the Inferno as she was perfect from the free-throw line, 7-of-7, and dished out five assists.

Brooke McBain was a rebound shy of a double-double with season-highs of 16 points and nine rebounds, while Mollie Mikyska tallied her seventh double-double of the season with 14 points and a game-best 15 rebounds.

Nyakok Duop and Alyssa Mane added nine points apiece and Julie Gallegos added eight points and a team-best seven assists in Alverno's first victory since an 82-51 rout of Northland College back on December 29.

Alverno got in a quick hole, down 18-4 to begin the game, but rallied all the way back to tie the Muskies (4-11, 4-7 NACC) at 24 apiece.

Down three at halftime, the Inferno scored the first eight points of the second half and remained ahead the rest of the game.

A layup by Mane with 12 minutes, 33 second to play gave Alverno its biggest lead of the game at 61-47, but the Muskies had some fight left in them and quickly trimmed the lead down to five over the next two minutes.

The hosts' lead was cut to just three with 4:44 remaining, but back-to-back baskets by McBain and Duop gave the Inferno the momentum to close out the victory.

Bailey Grayvold led the Muskies with a game-high 20 points and Trista Barron added 17.

Lakeland had just 15 turnovers compared to the Inferno's 28, but the home team cleaned the glass with a 47-25 rebounding advantage.

Alverno has now won four-straight against Lakeland.

Next up for the Inferno is Concordia University Chicago on Tuesday, January 20, in Reiman Gymnasium. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
