MILWAUKEE -- Four Alverno College players scored double-figures as the host Inferno defeated Milwaukee School of Engineering 67-54 Saturday night in Reiman Gymnasium.

The Inferno (5-1, 4-1 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference) retained the Red Rivalry Trophy as it defeated its crosstown rivals for the third-straight time in the all-time series.

Kristen Speerschneider led all scorers with 19 points, as she was 6-of-9 from the field--all of which were 3-point shots--while Devon Gorman added 12, Anna Boteva 11 and Ashley Berry 10 for the Inferno. Rookie Mollie Mikyska was a perfect 4-of-4 from the field and put up a season-best nine points and six rebounds in just 10 minutes of action.

The lead went back and forth most of the night before the Inferno closed out the game with a 14-2 run in the game's final 6 minutes, 10 seconds.

With just over 6 minutes to play and the Inferno down 52-51, Gorman capitalized on one of the Raiders' (3-3, 2-1 NACC) 20 turnovers and scored the go-ahead layup, followed by back-to-back Boteva 3-pointers to push the lead to seven with 3 minutes to play.

The Alverno defense held MSOE scoreless for a seventh-straight possession and Speerschneider made a 30-foot 3-pointer just before the shot clock expired for the first double-digit lead of the night, 62-52.

Although Alverno made just 12-of-18 free throws overall, it made 5-of-6 free throws the final 2 minutes to ice the victory.

Holly Denfeld led the Raiders with 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

Alverno returns to action on Tuesday as it hosts Dominican University at 7 p.m.
