Spartans Down Inferno

MILWAUKEE -- The Alverno College women's basketball team dropped their third consecutive game, falling 69-54 to visiting Aurora University at Reiman Gymnasium.

The Inferno (8-11, 4-9 NAC) quickly fell behind 8-0, before scoring on a Lisa Sorgi (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield) basket with 16:23 to go to cut the lead to six. The Inferno would continue the early run, closing the gap to one at 8-7 less than a minute later.

Aurora (14-7, 11-4 NAC) would again increase their lead to eight points, but Alverno would climb back into the game, and tie the score at 25-25 with 6:35 left in the half on a three-point basket by Alicia Kontowski (South Milwaukee, Wis.). Aurora would, however, close the half on a 10-4 run, to lead 35-29 at the break.

Alverno would keep the score within single digits for most of the second half, but Aurora's hot shooting would extend their lead to as many as 20 in the final period. Megan Re (Belvidere, Ill.) would lead Aurora with 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the three-point arc.

Aurora shot 45 percent from the field on 47 percent from three-point range, compared to the Inferno's 38 percent shooting from the field and 23 percent from the three-point arc.

Kontowski would lead the Inferno in scoring with 15 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line.

Joslyn Binkowski (Greenfield, Wis.) recorded her second double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

Alverno is next in action this Saturday as they travel to Rockford College. Game time is set for 2pm.
