MILWAUKEE -- The Alverno College women's basketball team lost its third straight game tonight as they fell to visiting MSOE 58-48 at Reiman Gymnasium.
The Inferno (10-14, 6-12 Northern Athletics Conference) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, led by Lisa Sorgi (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield), who scored the team's first 12 points of the game. MSOE would answer with a 7-1 run to take a brief lead at 7-5 with just under 14 minutes to play.
The game would go back and forth the remainder of the half, which would end at a 21-21 tie.
The Raiders (13-11, 10-8) would come out firing in the second half with a 22-8 run from which the Inferno couldn't respond.
The Inferno shot just 37 percent from the floor and 57 percent from the free throw line, while MSOE shot 40 percent from the floor, 44 percent from the three-point arc and 76 percent from the free throw line for the game.
Sorgi led the Inferno in scoring with a game-high 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting, which also tied her season-high scoring effort. She also had a game-high five steals on the defensive end.
Gabby Allen (Milwaukee, Wis./Bay View) also hit double figures for Alverno with 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting. Senior Bre Miller (Racine, Wis./Horlick) grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists, both game-highs. Joslyn Binkowski (Greenfield, Wis.) also had six rebounds for the Inferno.
Carol Cayo (Lake Mills, Wis.) led the Raiders with 20 points and 13 rebounds, and shot a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line.
The Inferno will conclude their season this Saturday as they travel to Fond du Lac, Wis. to take on host Marian University in the "NAC North/South Challenge Game." Game time is set for 1pm.
