Inferno Goes Cold in Loss to MSOE

Box Score

MILWAUKEE -- After scoring a season-high 89 points on Tuesday night, the Alverno College women's basketball team was held to their season-low total, falling 56-44 to host MSOE at the Kern Center in a Northern Athletics Conference game.

The Inferno (4-6, 1-4 NAC) trailed by only six at the half, 26-20, after shooting 26.5 percent from the field in the first half, compared to MSOE's 43 percent. Alverno's attack from the three-point arc helped keep them in the game early, going 4-of-6 in the first period.

The shooting would just get colder for the Inferno in the second half, shooting a dismal 20 percent in the period, including 0-of-8 from the three-point arc. One bright spot on the offensive end for Alverno was shooting a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line on the night.

The Inferno defense forced MSOE (7-5, 4-2 NAC) to 19 turnovers in the game, compared to only 14 by Alverno. Yet MSOE held a 44-36 advantage on the glass.

Sophomore guard Gabby Allen (Milwaukee, Wis./Bay View) led Alverno in scoring with 10 points, and added a game-high three blocks on the defensive end.

Seniors Katie Salentine (Muskego, Wis.) and Joslyn Binkowski (Greenfield, Wis.) led the Inferno on the glass with 11 and 10 rebounds, respectively.

The Inferno will host Lakeland College on Saturday afternoon at 2 in a NAC contest, and will then travel to River Forest, Ill. to take on host Dominican University on Sunday afternoon at 2 in a game that was rescheduled from Dec. 20.
