MILWAUKEE -- The Alverno College women's basketball team shot only 29 percent from the field and less than 19 percent from the three-point arc en route to a 63-41 defeat at the hands of Wisconsin Lutheran College in a Northern Athletics Conference game at WLC's Recreation Complex.
The loss drops the Inferno to 8-10 overall and 4-8 in the NAC, while WLC improves to 11-6 and a division-leading 9-2 in the NAC North.
The Warriors jumped out to an early 10-2 lead and never looked back. They would increase their lead to 20-7 with just under 10 minutes to play in the half. Alverno would make a brief run and cut the lead to seven, 22-15, on a jumper by Gabby Allen (Milwaukee, Wis./Bay View) at the 4:42 mark, but that would be as close as the Inferno would get the rest of the way.
WLC would get the lead to 29 with just under 4 minutes to play in the game, but the Inferno would end the game on an 8-1 run for the final score of 63-41. The 41 points is the Inferno's lowest point total on the season.
Allen had a game-high 16 points and six rebounds for the Inferno, while Joslyn Binkowski (Greenfield, Wis.) added 10 points.
Whitney Miller (Germantown, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) and Britany Lindert (Milwaukee, Wis./School of Languages) led the Warriors on scoring with 14 points each.
Alverno lost the rebounding battle by only two, 38-36, but also committed 20 turnovers compared to WLC's 15.
Alverno will have the weekend off of competition before hosting Aurora University next Wednesday, Feb. 4 in Reiman Gymnasium at 7pm.
