MILWAUKEE -- The Alverno College women's basketball team fell to Northern Athletics Conference foe Concordia University Chicago, 56-51, tonight at Reiman Gymnasium.
The Inferno (8-9, 4-7 NAC) started the game hot with a 10-0 run out of the gates, but Concordia Chicago (5-10, 3-8 NAC) would slowly cut into the Inferno's lead. Alverno would go up 20-10 on a three-point basket by freshman Alicia Kontowski (South Milwaukee, Wis.) with 7:43 remaining in the half, but would then be held scoreless until a layup by Katie Salentine (Muskego, Wis.) with just 44 seconds remaining, tying the game at 22-22 going into intermission.
The second half would again start in the Inferno's favor as they would lead 42-31 at the 9:50 mark on a three-pointer by Lisa Sorgi (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield). Yet again the Cougars would claw back, holding the Inferno to just four points the next 5:30, tying the game at 47-47.
Alverno would hold a 51-47 lead with 2:07 left to play, but would be held scoreless the remainder of the game, as Concordia Chicago ended the game on a 9-0 run to come away with the 56-51 victory.
Bre Miller (Racine, Wis./Horlick) and Salentine led the Inferno in scoring with 14 and 10 points, respectively. Joslyn Binkowski (Greenfield, Wis.) led the Inferno on the boards with 10.
Concordia Chicago's Marche Smith (Oak Park, Ill.) scored a game-high 25 points and had a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Inferno will travel cross-town to face Wisconsin Lutheran College on Thursday at 7pm.
