Alverno Ends Losing Skid with Win Over Silver Lake

MILWAUKEE -- The Alverno College women's basketball team ended their three-game losing streak in commanding fashion with a 75-32 non-conference victory over Silver Lake College in Milwaukee.

The Inferno (3-4, 1-3 NAC) jumped out to an early 19-8 lead just nine minutes into the game, and never looked back. Alverno forced 18 Silver Lake (2-8) turnovers in the first half, and limited the Lakers to 23.8 percent shooting from the floor in the period. Alverno led 40-16 at the half.

In the second half Alverno would dominate the visitors, leading by as many as 48. All 10 Inferno players would score in the game and would shoot over 45-percent from the floor, including 35-precent from beyond the 3-point arc.

Sophomore Gabby Allen (Milwaukee, Wis./Bayview) would lead all scorers with 27 points, matching her career-high she set last year versus Silver Lake. Allen was 12-of-16 from the floor, and 2-of-2 from 3-point range.

Lisa Sorgi (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield) added 20 points for the Inferno on 9-of-14 shooting, and also led the team with five assists.

Robyn Rosenthal (Waterford, Wis./Union) would lead Alverno on the glass with seven rebounds, while Joslyn Binkowski (Greenfield, Wis.) had six, and Sorgi grabbed five.

Kortney Mansker (Howards Grove, Wis.) led Silver Lake with 14 points, while Michelle Stueck (Manitowoc, Wis.) had 10 points and 16 rebounds for the Lakers.

Alverno hosts Viterbo University tomorrow afternoon at 2pm for a non-conference game, before  resuming their conference schedule next Saturday, Dec. 20 at Dominican University.
