MILWAUKEE -- The Alverno College women's basketball team fell in their Tip-Off tournament championship game to visiting College of St. Catherine, 77-56.

St. Kate's (2-0) jumped off to an early 13-2 lead, and never looked back. St. Kate's held the Inferno (1-1) under 10 points until a pair of free throws by senior Katie Salentine (Muskego, Wis.) at just under the five minute mark. Salentine, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, shot 90% from the line, on 9-of-10 shooting from the charity stripe.

The Inferno would trail 36-20 going into the locker room at halftime.

Alverno would come out in the second half with a bit more energy, going on an 8-0 run in a three-and-a-half minute span, cutting the lead to 42-34. Freshman Alicia Kontowski (South Milwaukee, Wis.), who finished with a game-high 17 points, would drain two of her four 3-point field goals on the run.

The Inferno's run would end there getting no closer than eight the rest of the game. St. Kate's size appeared to be too much for the Inferno, as they out-rebounded Alverno 43-29.

St. Kate's Laura Kalbfell (Lakeville, Minn.) and Molly Peterson (Valley City, N.D.) led the Wildcats in scoring with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Both players were also named to the All-Tournament Team, in addition to University of Dubuque's Jennifer Nichols (Woodstock, Ill.) and UW-Superior's Hailey Hart (Osseo, Wis.).

Dubuque (1-1) defeated UW-Superior (2-2) 81-67 in the consolation game.

Alverno will open up their conference schedule next Saturday, Nov. 29 at Concordia University Chicago. Game time is set for 2pm in River Forest, Ill.
