DulekLAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Alverno volleyball team concluded its 2011 season at the Lake Forest Triangular today at the Sports and Recreation Center in Lake Forest.

The Inferno (4-28) were swept, 3-0, in their first match versus Lawrence, and then lost a tough four-set match to the host Foresters, 3-1.

Against the Vikings (13-19), the Inferno weren't able to get things going on the offensive side as the team connected for only 20 kills and committed 16 attack errors for a .043 accuracy. The Inferno also committed eight service errors that led directly to Viking points.

Cali Trepp (Iron Mountain, Mich./Niagara), however, had a team-high six kills and only one miscue for a .333 attack percentage.

The Vikings won the three sets by scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-16.

In the nightcap versus Lake Forest, the Inferno shook off the 25-15 lopsided opening-set loss and took the Foresters (14-13) to extra points in the second set, yet still lost 28-26 to fall behind 2-0 in the match.

In the third frame, the Inferno were the ones to edge out a close victory with a 25-23 win, but the close score was flip-flopped in the fourth for the 3-1 final score.

The Inferno more than doubled their attack in the second match with 43 kills (25 errors). Erin Dulek (Rosholt, Wis.) led Alverno with a season-high 13 kills, while Shelby Metzger (Montreal, Mo./Camdenton) added eight and 30 assists. Trepp and Linda Vang (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) added seven kills apiece and Sara Willert (East Troy, Wis.) had six.

Defensively, Reagan Owen (Salina, Kan./Central) led all players with 28 digs and Metzger added 18.

The Inferno's four victories this year were more than the last three seasons' combined total (3). The team also set single-season school records with 1,690 digs and 131 block assists.
