TreppMILWAUKEE -- Alverno snapped a 14-match losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Mt. Mary Blue Angels Friday night in the Bloechl Center.

The Inferno (4-26) won the opening set 25-17 before the hosts Blue Angels (16-16) took the second set 25-19 to even up the match at 1-1.

Alverno then rallied to take the third set, 26-24, in extra points and secured the set victory with a 25-17 triumph in the fourth frame.

Cali Trepp (Iron Mountain, Mich./Niagara) led the Inferno attack with 13 kills, Erin Dulek (Rosholt, Wis.) added 11, Linda Vang (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) eight and Shelby Metzger (Montreal, Mo./Camdenton) seven to go along with her team-high 33 assists--just one off her career best.

Defensively, Reagan Owen (Salina, Kan./Central) had a season-high 36 digs, Metzger added 26 and Trepp added seven. Metzger, Dulek and Chelsea Gulbronson (Milwaukee/Pius XI) led the block party with four apiece, while Maryah Arterberry (Brawley, Calif.) added three (one solo).

The nonconference victory evened the season series with the crosstown rivals, 1-1, and increases the Inferno's lead to 17-5 in the all-time series between the two women's colleges.

The Inferno close out the 2011 season on Saturday in a triangular at Lake Forest versus the hosts Foresters and the Lawrence Vikings.
