DrakeGLENDALE, Wis. -- The Marian Sabres defeated host Alverno 7-2 today and clinched the final spot in the Northern Athletics Conference tournament, therefore ending the Inferno's tournament hopes.

The Inferno (4-10, 4-7 NAC) got off to a rough start in the dual match as they dropped all three doubles matches to trail 3-0 to the Sabres (8-6, 5-6).

In singles play, Abigail Kohal (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) and Damanique Drake (Milwaukee/Rufus King) picked up the only victories for the Inferno.

Kohal won the No. 2 singles match in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 10-7), while Drake won the No. 5 match in three sets as well (2-6, 7-5, 10-1).

"I am really proud of the way both Abigail and Damanique played today," Alverno head coach Erin Felber said. "Overall, I'm proud of the team's hard work and effort, but unfortunately it just wasn’t meant to be today."

The Inferno have completed the dual match portion of their schedule, and will compete in the 2011 Northern Athletics Conference Individual Tournament in Madison this coming Saturday and Sunday.
