KohalGLENDALE, Wis. -- Alverno opened up a three-match home stand on Saturday with a 6-3 loss to visiting Milwaukee School of Engineering at Le Club in Glendale, Wis. The match, originally scheduled as an outdoor dual at McKinley Park in Milwaukee, was moved to the indoor locale due to rain and thunderstorms in the area.

The Inferno got off to a rough start and lost all three doubles matches, including a close 9-8 result at the No. 3 spot.

Alverno fared better in singles play, as Abigail Kohal (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) won the No. 2 match, 6-1 and 6-2, Lin Liu won at No. 3, 7-4 (6-4) and 6-1, and Joanna Stanula (Oak Creek, Wis.) at No. 4, 2-6, 6-3 and 10-6.

The loss drops the Inferno to 4-8 overall, and 4-5 in Northern Athletics Conference play. The team hosts Marian on Tuesday and Mt. Mary on Thursday before finishing up dual-match play on Saturday at Wisconsin Lutheran.
