Goska named to women's tennis All-Sportsmanship team

GoskaMILWAUKEE -- Tricia Goska (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) was selected as the Alverno representative on the 2011 Northern Athletics Conference Women's Tennis All-Sportsmanship Team.

"Tricia truly earned the honor of being a part of the NAC All-Sportsmanship team," Alverno head coach Erin Felber said. "She always has a positive attitude and a good work ethic, despite whether or not she won or lost."

Inferno tennis concludes season at NAC Individual Tournament

2011 TournamentMADISON, Wis. -- The Alverno tennis team concluded its season at the 2011 Northern Athletics Conference Individual Tournament this weekend at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.

Abigail Kohal (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) advanced the furthest of all the Inferno players, into the round of 16, where she lost in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 10-8.

Inferno's tournament hopes ended by Sabres

DrakeGLENDALE, Wis. -- The Marian Sabres defeated host Alverno 7-2 today and clinched the final spot in the Northern Athletics Conference tournament, therefore ending the Inferno's tournament hopes.

The Inferno (4-10, 4-7 NAC) got off to a rough start in the dual match as they dropped all three doubles matches to trail 3-0 to the Sabres (8-6, 5-6).

In singles play, Abigail Kohal (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) and Damanique Drake (Milwaukee/Rufus King) picked up the only victories for the Inferno.

Kontowski exploded for 20 second-half points and set a new career high for the third time in four games with 24 points to lead all scorers at Lakeland on Tuesday. She shot 9-of-16 from the floor, also setting a new career high with the nine makes. On the week she averaged 15.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 42 percent from the floor and 83 percent from the free-throw line.
