Craze named to NAC All-Sportsmanship team

Katie CrazeMILWAUKEE -- The Northern Athletics Conference announced that Alverno College senior Katie Craze (Fond du Lac, Wis./St. Mary's Springs) has been named to the conference's 2009 Women's Tennis All-Sportsmanship Team.

"Katie truly earned this award through hard work and effort," Alverno head coach Erin Felber said. "No matter what spot she was playing, she had a positive attitude and supported her teammates until the end. She was a great team captain and always led by example. When I think of good sportsmanship I think of Katie Craze."

The 12-player All-Sportsmanship team is comprised of individuals who exemplified positive sportsmanship throughout the season.

Alverno concludes season with 10th place finish at NAC Tennis Championship

2009 NAC Women's Tennis ChampionshipMADISON, Wis. -- The Alverno College women's tennis team concluded their 2009 fall season with a 10th place finish at the 2009 Northern Athletics Conference Tennis Championship in Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.

"I am really proud of the team as a whole how they came together and fought hard in every match up until the bitter end," Alverno head coach Erin Felber said.

The Inferno tied Lakeland College with 11 points for 10th place, while Edgewood College captured the NAC championship for the second straight season with 73 points. Rockford College finished last with six points for 12th place.

Play suspended in Alverno's regular season finale

WAUWATOSA, Wis. -- Play was suspended in the Alverno College women's tennis dual match at Mount Mary College this afternoon due to rain showers. The nonconference dual was halted after doubles matches were completed and singles competition had just gotten underway. The dual match will not be completed at a later date.

The match will not count in either teams' season records, but the three completed doubles matches will be included in the individual players' records.

The Inferno (1-9) came away with a victory in the No. 2 doubles match as senior Katie Craze (Fond du Lac, Wis./St. Mary's Springs) and sophomore Gabby Allen (Milwaukee, Wis./Bay View) defeated their opponents from Mount Mary, 8-6.

Alverno falls to Sabres, 9-0

MILWAUKEE -- The Alverno College women's tennis team completed its home schedule for the 2009 season falling to the Sabres of Marian University 9-0 Tuesday evening in a Northern Athletics Conference dual at Jackson Park.

The visiting Sabres (12-5, 9-2 NAC) took all nine points from the Inferno for the sweep. The visitors won the three doubles matches 8-2, 8-1 and 8-1 before taking all six singles matches in two sets each.

Aurora, Benedictine defeat Inferno

MILWAUKEE -- The Alverno College women's tennis team dropped a pair of Northern Athletics Conference home dual matches to visiting Aurora University and Benedictine University today at McKinley Park.

The Inferno (1-8, 2-8 NAC) began the day with a 9-0 defeat at the hands of Aurora (10-4, 8-2).

Amanda Almquist (Greenfield, Wis.) lost a heartbreaker at No. 1 singles in three sets. Almquist lost the first set 6-3, before defeating her AU opponent 6-2 in the second set. She then fell 10-7 in the third set tiebreaker.
