WEST ALLIS, Wis. – The Alverno cross country team got a taste of the 2019 NACC Championship course on Saturday afternoon, as the Inferno took part in the Warrior Invitational hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran College.
The Inferno took 14th place of the 15 teams to place at the six-kilometer course as the Inferno amassed a team score of 364 points.
As the team progressed through the 2019 season the team continues to improve on its times with all six of Alverno's entries once again setting season-best times heading into the final two races of the year.
Leading the Inferno once again was junior Dom Hudson, who shaved 33 seconds off of her season-best time as she came across the line with a time of 29:15.35 to spearhead the Inferno effort.
Senior Laura Sierra was second for the Inferno with a time of 31:05.79, as she knocked 14 seconds off of her best time this season as she got off to a late start in 2019. Last season, Sierra had a time of 29:55.42 at the Warrior Invitational, which is her career-best mark.
Up next for the Inferno was senior Mackenzie Mathies, who also took another 28 seconds off of her season-best time, finishing with a 31:31.99. Sophomore Isabel Ovalle, also trimmed another 30 seconds off of her season-best time as she set a time of 34:06.80 to finish fourth for Alverno.
Freshman Marianne Hughes took fifth for the Inferno with a time of 40:08.25, as she also took just over 30 seconds off of her season-best time to date as she competed in her second collegiate race. Senior Tanya Salentine ended the race in sixth position for the Inferno as she took off 34 seconds from her previous season-best time coming across the finish line with a time of 40:54.45.
Alverno will have one final tune-up race before the 2019 NACC Championships, as the Inferno will return to St. Norbert on Saturday, October 19 to take part in the Wisconsin Private College Invitational. Alverno opened the season at St. Norbert on August 31 at the Tom Barry Invitational.
