Cross Country Competes at Ripon in Final Tune-Up for NACC Championships

RIPON, Wis. – The Alverno cross country team wrapped up its regular season on Saturday morning, with the 2018 Wisconsin Private College Championships hosted by Ripon College.

In its final tune-up for the 2018 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championships, the Inferno finished in 11th position of the 11 teams to place posting a team score of 321 points.

Leading the way for the Inferno was senior Melissa Weyand, who recorded a time of 28:54.09 as she finished the six-kilometer course with the 52nd fasted time in he field of 71.

Freshman Isabel Ovalle was second for the Inferno as she notched a time of 35:25.12 to take 65th position. Junior Leah Badke was third for Alverno, just behind Ovalle, with a time of 35:50.37.

Junior Carina Jimenez was the fourth member of the Inferno squad to finish with a time of 36:13.92; while sophomore Tanya Salentine rounded things out for Alverno as she registered a time of 42:11.53.

Earning the win at the event was St. Norbert, with four individuals finishing in the top-10. Beloit was second followed by Alverno's NACC foe Edgewood with 87 points. Carroll and Ripon rounded out the top-five, with all five posting sub-100 scores.

Alverno will take next weekend off in advance of the NACC Championships, which takes place in Aurora, Illinois at the Oakhurst Forest Preserve at 11 a.m.
