MILWAUKEE – The Alverno cross country team closed out the month of September competing in the Warrior Invitational hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday afternoon at Greenfield Park.
Alverno took 11th place of the 11 teams competing at the event, and were the fourth team from the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference to place with 283 points as a team.
Earning the win at the event was host Wisconsin Lutheran, while Mount Mary finished sixth and Lakeland took seventh place.
Leading the way for the Inferno was junior Laura Sierra, who finished 53rd individually in the full field of 92 at the event. Sierra tallied a time of 29:55.42 along the 6K course.
Freshman Isabel Ovalle took second for the Inferno with a time of 34:57.48. Junior Carina Jimenez was one place behind Ovalle, as recorded a time of 35:42.78. Junior Leah Badke was fourth for the Inferno with a time of 37:09.75.
Taking the fifth and final scoring position was senior Elizabeth Gamillo, who registered a time of 37:24.07. Sophomore Tanya Salentine finished with a time of 39:54.38 to round out Alverno's slate of racers at the event.
Alverno will be off next weekend, before resuming competition on Saturday, October 13, when the Inferno head to Ripon for the Private College Championships at 11:15 a.m.
