Alverno College Head Cross Country Coach Megan Krueger begins her first season leading the Inferno after serving as an assistant coach the past two years.
Five newcomers join junior Kayla Soliday, the lone returner from last year's squad, but a pair of the newcomers are upperclassmen to add experience and leadership with Soliday.
"We've only been practicing for a few weeks now, but I see a great potential in all of them," said Krueger of this year's runners.
After a pair of 10th place finishes at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championships the last two seasons, Alverno will look to move back up in the standings.
The Inferno begins the season at the Ken Weidt Classic hosted by Concordia University Wisconsin this Saturday, September 12, up in Mequon.
"I think this first meet will be the most challenging because this is the first one of few of them have ever ran before," Krueger said. "But I think we're definitely going to gain momentum as the season continues."
Three more meets follow the Weidt Classic before Alverno hosts the Wisconsin Private College Championships at Sheridan Park in Cudahy on Saturday, October 17, and then closes out the season at the NACC Championships on October 31 at Concordia Wisconsin.
