AURORA, Ill. -- Three Inferno runners set personal-record marks as Alverno College concluded its season at the 2014 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championships this afternoon at Oakhurst Forest Preserve.
The Inferno placed 10th in the team standings with 261 points, ahead of Marian University, who did not field a minimum five runners for a team score, and behind ninth-place Dominican University's 250. Alverno's team score shaved 14 points off last season's total.
Aurora University won the women's 6K for the third-straight year with team score of 25.
Jamie Hoernke paced the Inferno with a personal-record time of 27 minutes, 25.3 seconds, finishing in 54th place, just outside the top half of the field of nearly 100 runners. The senior knocked over 10 seconds off her previous best in the final race of her college career.
Fellow senior Alli Weil finished in 27:56.0, over a minute better than her previous personal best time.
Courtney Cornella-Carlson's 35:04.2 had the best finish of her career, nearly 40 seconds better than last season's NACC Championship when she had set her former personal-best mark.
