MILWAUKEE – The Alverno College Athletics Department has announced that Dan Dresen has been promoted to the role of Head Volleyball Coach, while also assuming the newly created role of Recruiting Coordinator for the athletics department as announced by Alverno College Vice President and Dean of Students, Dr. Wendy Powers.
"I want to thank Wendy Powers and the Alverno College Athletics Staff for the opportunity to lead Alverno College volleyball program," said Dresen "Alverno is a great environment for our student-athletes to balance their academic and athletic careers. In an area that is filled with excellent volleyball talent, I look forward to establishing a community of competitive student-athletes at Alverno. I am extremely excited to be able to lead the Inferno in the area where I was raised."
In his role, Dresen will now lead the Inferno volleyball program following a four-year stint as an assistant coach as he becomes the eighth individual to lead the program since its initial season in the fall of 2000. In his role as Recruiting Coordinator, Dresen will assist and oversee the recruiting efforts of the cross country, golf and tennis programs
"I am confident Dan is the right person to lead our Inferno Volleyball program into a bright new future," commented Powers. "With a foundation built around our current Alverno Strong student-athletes, he and his staff, are recruiting feverishly to add skill, grit and competitiveness to this program."
Throughout his time as an assistant coach with the volleyball program, Dresen helped in a multitude of roles including recruiting, in-game management, and practice planning, while also bringing a deep breadth of volleyball knowledge to the program.
Dresen had been the director of the Wisconsin Juniors Volleyball Club based out of Pleasant Prarie, Wisconsin and served as the boy's club director from 2012 through 2016. From August of 2013 through March of 2017, Dresen also served as the boys' varsity volleyball coach at Union Grove High School in Union Grove, Wisconsin, a program that he was responsible for starting.
He graduated from Quincy University in Quincy, Illinois in May 2010 with a Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design, before adding his Postgraduate Degree in Business Management at Durham University in Durham, England.
In the process of Dresen's hiring as Head Volleyball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator, he will be stepping down as the head coach of the Alverno golf program. This past season leading the golf team, Dresen led the team to a program-best seventh place finish at the NACC Championship with a combined team score of 1,427, which was the second lowest score in team history at the championship event.
Dresen replaces Susan Peterson, who had stepped down earlier this year to accept a position outside of coaching. Peterson had been with Alverno since 2013, where she served her first two seasons as an assistant with the program before taking over as head coach in 2015. During her tenure, Peterson won 20 matches, which is tied for second most amongst coaches in the program's history.
