MILWAUKEE – The 2018 Alverno Inferno volleyball schedule has been revealed for the upcoming season by head coach Susan Peterson. The 30-match slate will feature six matches at home inside Reiman Gymnasium.
Last season the Inferno won six matches, including one in conference play and will look to build upon that win total heading into the forthcoming campaign. The team will return a strong contingent of players from last season's roster and will use the additional year of experience to propel the team forward in 2018.
For the first time since the 2014 season the Inferno will play outside of the central time zone as the campaign will open in Virginia Wesleyan Invitational in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Inferno will meet with Geneva and Randolph-Macon on Friday, August 31 before taking on Widener and St. Mary's (Md.) the following afternoon to open the month of September.
Upon the teams return to the Badger State and will play in the Milwaukee School of Engineering Invitational on the weekend of September 7-8. The Inferno will play Caltech and UW-Platteville on Friday, before taking on UW-River Falls and Maranatha Baptist on Saturday. A trip to Lake Forest will follow for an evening contest on September 11.
Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play begins with the 2018 home opener as the Inferno will welcome the Edgewood Eagles on September 12. The season continues with matches against Carleton as well as Trinity Bible (N.D.) and Macalester.
Alverno gets back home to take on Lakeland on September 18 before a trip to Concordia-Chicago for a tri-match with Lake Forest. The month of September closes out with Concordia Wisconsin and Wisconsin Lutheran to close out the month.
The first three matches of October are at home as Alverno hosts Marian on October 2, before a date with Aurora on October 5 and Benedictine on October 6. The team visits Dominican for a league tilt on October 12, before a non-conference tri-match at Maranatha Baptist the following day. A Tuesday trip to local league foe MSOE follows on October 16.
The final match of the home slate will feature the first-ever league contest with Illinois Tech on Friday, October 19. The league slate wraps up on the road at Mount Mary followed by Rockford, before wrapping up the regular season slate at Dubuque for a tri-match with Loras.
