MILWAUKEE, WIS.--The Alverno College volleyball team concluded their 2017 season Tuesday evening falling to Wisconsin Lutheran 3-1.
The Warriors started the match with a quick 7-4 lead in set one. A quick 4-0 expanded the Warrior advantage to 11-5. Later, a Warrior kill helped Wisconsin Lutheran at 18-13. Finally, an Inferno service error sealed the first set for Wisconsin Lutherans.
With the momentum heading into the second set, the Warriors quickly collected a 10-6 advantage with a 4-0 run. A late 5-0 helped the Warriors take the second set 25-13.
Alverno started the third set scoring the first eight points, stunning the Warriors. A Inferno 3-0 run from a Warrior attack error extended the Alverno lead at 13-8. Wisconsin Lutheran responded with a 5-0 run of their own taking the one point lead. A 3-0 run and a 4-0 run for the Inferno closed out the set for Alverno 25-18.
Wisconsin Lutheran came out in the fourth set scoring the first four points. After a quick 14-6 lead in favor of Wisconsin Lutheran, Alverno went on a 9-1 run to cut the Warrior lead to 16-14. Two straight kills for Cailey Jeske slowed the Warrior advantage at 22-19. However, two Inferno attack errors marked the victory for Wisconsin Lutheran.
"I think we did a really good job coming along this year." Said Susan Peterson. "I expect we are going to be a lot better and a lot stronger next year."
The match with Wisconsin Lutheran concluded the 2017 season for the Inferno. Alverno College finished 6-20 (1-10 NACC).
