Inferno unable to force fourth set

MILWAUKEE, WIS.--The Alverno College volleyball team dropped a NACC contest to Concordia Chicago Friday, evening.

The Cougars started the first set gaining a quick 6-1 advantage. Later in the set, a 5-0 run for the Inferno knotted the game at 15. Two service aces and a Cougar kill saw Concordia Chicago quickly take the first set 25-20. 

Concordia Chicago continued to use their momentum in the second set with a quick 6-0 run. Another 5-0 run later in the set extended the Cougar lead at 20-11. Two A final Inferno attack error sealed the set in favor of Concordia Chicago. 

As  the third set progressed, Alverno came out with a purpose collecting a quick 5-0 advantage. The Cougars clawed their way back into the set with a service ace and a Concordia Chicago kill. WIth the set tied at 10, Concordia Chicago used a 4-0 run to regain the lead. Alverno tied the set at 20 but two late Inferno attack errors would seal the match for the Cougars. 

Senior Jessica Wewers finished the match with eight kills off 13 total attacks for a kill percentage of .615. Cailey Jeske added seven kills while Atiya Mansfield added 10 assists. 

"I really think we have the ability to make runs on teams." Commented Susan Peterson. "If we can do that, I think we would be really hard to beat." 

Alverno College are back in action Saturday as they welcome Dominican University for senior day Oct. 21 at 12 p.m.
