Alverno drop non-conference match

MILWAUKEE, WIS.--The Alverno College volleyball team dropped a non-conference match against Lake Forest Tuesday evening 3-0.

Lake Forest started the match with a quick 7-3 lead. After a Forester kill and an Inferno attack error expanded the Lake Forest lead to 16-7, Alverno responded with a 5-0 run led by Cailey Jeske who recorded three service aces. After a Lake Forest timeout, the Foresters continued to connect taking the set 25-16 off a Lake Forest kill.

The second set started with neither team gaining the advantage. However, Lake Forest began to pull away after two Inferno attack errors. A late 3-0 run for Alverno was not enough as an Inferno service error claimed the set in favor of Lake Forest.

Lake Forest continued to connect offensively in the third set taking a 10-4 lead. The sizeable advantage was too much for the Inferno to recover as Lake Forest took the set and the match 25-17.

Senior Jessica Wewers finished the match with nine kills followed closely by Cailey Jeske with eight kills and 11 digs.

"We really have yet to show, on the scoreboard, our accomplishments on the season and some the growth we have as a program." Said Susan Peterson. "They keep their spirits high during practice. We have to show people what we see, as a staff, everyday."

Alverno continues their homestand with a NACC match against Concordia Chicago Friday, Oct. 20 at 5 p.m.
