LISLE, ILL-The Alverno College volleyball team fought hard against Benedictine University but fell by a final score of 3-1.
After collecting the first two sets in the Eagles favor, Alverno retaliated and came out in the third set with a 4-0 run led by Cailey Jeske with two service aces. Another 4-0 run expanded the Inferno lead to 12-9 off a kill from Jessica Wewers. After an Eagles timeout, Alverno extended the lead to 24-20 off a kill from Arianna Rehberg. The Inferno were able to fend off a late Eagles push to take the set 25-23.
With the fourth set underway, the Eagles jumped out to a quick 9-5 advantage. Alverno chipped away at the Benedictine lead to tie the set at 21. However, a final 5-0 for Benedictine closed out the set for the Eagles 25-21.
Alverno College stays in Illinois as they travel to Aurora University Saturday, Oct. 7 with a match start time set for 12 p.m.
