MILWAUKEE, WIS.--The Alverno College volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to Illinois Tech Tuesday afternoon 3-1.
The Scarlet Hawks came out on the Inferno early in the first set scoring four straight points before Alverno could retaliate. With the score knotted at 10, Illinois Tech went on a 4-0 run to keep a 14-10 advantage. A late push for Inferno in the set would not be enough to mount a comeback as a Scarlet Hawks kill claimed the set in their favor.
With momentum in the second set, Illinois Tech once again jumped out to a 7-1 lead. The fast start was too much for Alverno to handle as they dropped the set 25-16.
Alverno turned the tides in the third set as the Inferno took the set advantage at 9-5. After a Scarlet Hawks timeout, Alverno added to their lead off a Illinois Tech attack error. Both teams traded point for point late in the set. However, two straight Scarlet Hawks attack errors claimed the set for the Inferno.
As the fourth set progressed, Illinois Tech once again jumped out to an early advantage at 10-6. Alverno made efforts to chip away at the Scarlet Hawks lead but three straight errors for the Inferno sealed the set for Illinois Tech 25-14.
Alverno College hits the road Friday, Oct. 6 as they visit Benedictine University with a start time set for 7 p.m.
