Raiders Too Much For Inferno

MILWAUKEE, WIS.--The Alverno College volleyball team lost in close contest to NACC competitor MSOE Friday evening.

The Raiders opened with a fast start as they collected a 9-5 advantage. However, a five point swing for Alverno gave the Inferno their first lead of the set at 10-9. A 6-0 run later in the set expanded the Inferno lead at 18-14. MSOE did not waiver as they regained the set at 21-18 forcing an Inferno timeout. MSOE went on to take the first at 26-24.

Both teams continued the back and forth affair in the second set. A kill by Lauryn Young and a Raider attack error helped the Inferno hold the set at 11-9. Alverno was able to fend off the Raider comeback attack to claiming the set 25-21. 

MSOE once again started the third set with a fast 7-4 advantage. Later, two straight set errors from Alverno saw the Raider lead climb to 18-10. A final attack error for the Inferno sealed the set in favor of MSOE 25-12. 

Alverno came out in in the final set sticking with the Raider attack tying the game at 7 early. However, the Inferno were unable to minamize their mistakes. A 3-0 run for the Raiders to close the set, saw the victory go in their favor 3-1. 

Melissa Weyand led the Infero in kills with 10 while senior Jessica Wewers followed closely with eight. Sam Korn added 17 assists along with Morgan Lemner recording 16 digs. 

Alverno looks to rebound as they welcome Concordia Wisconsin to Reiman Gymnasium Saturday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m.
