BELOIT, WIS.--The Alverno College volleyball team fell to host Beloit College before picking up a victory against Mount Mary.
In the first match, Beloit started with a 7-4 lead. A five point run for Beloit widened the score to 14-7. Two straight kills for Beloit and later a service error for the Inferno gave the first set for Beloit.
Alverno turned the table to begin the second set as the Inferno started with a 13-5 advantage. However, the Buccaneers slowly chipped away at the Alverno lead tying the set at 17. A 3-0 run to close the set saw Beloit claim their second set 25-19.
Beloit again started the thrid set with a small advantage of 16-8. Two 3-0 runs for the Inferno tied the set at 20. Beloit would then string together a 4-0 run that was the deciding factor in the set as Beloit took the set and the match 25-22.
At the final match of the day, the Inferno came out on Mount Mary with a 5-0 run. Later, another 5-0 expanded the Alverno lead to 12-4. A final 6-0 run sealed the set for Alverno 25-14.
The second set continued as the Inferno put together a 4-0 run, and later a 5-0 advantage to jump out on Mount Mary 15-6. An attack error for Mount Mary and a kill by Arianna Rehberg gave the set to Alverno 25-8.
With momentum on their side, Alverno started the third set with a 7-1 lead. Two straight service aces from Rehberg and later a kill by Jessica Wewers expaned the Inferno score to 12-4. A final 3-0 run to close the set gave Alverno the match 25-11.
Alverno College returns home as they welcome MSOE to Reiman gymnasium on Friday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.
