MILWAUKEE -- Freshman setter Sam Korn set a new Alverno College single-match record with 46 assists, but the host Inferno lost, 3-2, to Marian University Tuesday evening on Senior Night.

The Westby, Wisconsin native broke the former record -- set by Meranda Masse three seasons ago -- by two.

The Inferno won the opening set, 25-17, but then dropped the next two, 25-23 and 25-21, before rallying for a 25-22 fourth-set win.

Tied 5-5 in the fifth and final frame, the Sabres (6-19, 4-5 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference) scored seven straight points and went on to close out the match with a 15-12 score.

Alverno outhit Marian, had more digs and more aces, but the host team also committed more errors on the night -- 12 more service errors and eight more ball-handling errors -- the difference in the contest.

Two Inferno players registered double-doubles in the five-setter. Cailey Jeske posted a career-best 18 kills and 13 digs while Melissa Weyand had 13 kills and a team-high 20 digs. Jeske added a career-high six aces, and Weyand added three.

Jessica Wewers matched her season-high with 14 kills and had four blocks while Alyssa Reinke posted 14 digs.

Danielle Schilawski -- the lone senior on the squad who was honored in a pre-match ceremony -- recorded 19 digs and an ace. The service ace was the 100th of her career.

Alverno (3-23, 1-8 NACC) closes out the season this weekend with a pair of matches. Friday the team heads up to first-place Concordia University Wisconsin for the final road contest of 2016 before it ends the season against Dominican University inside Reiman Gymnasium Saturday.
