Alverno Takes Set Off Defending NACC Champs

MADISON, Wisconsin -- Alverno College took the opening set off host Edgewood College, but ultimately lost the to the defending Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference champion, 3-1, Friday night inside the Edgedome.

The 25-22 opening-set win marked the first time since the 2008 season the Inferno (3-17, 1-3 NACC) took a set off the Eagles (8-9, 3-1), who have won three of the past four NACC titles.

Alverno connected for a blistering .400 attack percentage in the first frame and limited Edgewood to .071. Unfortunately, the Inferno's errors outnumbered the team's kills the remainder of the match and lost the final three sets 25-12, 25-11 and 25-9.

Cailey Jeske led the offense with a match-high 11 kills, and Sam Korn had 20 assists.

Alyssa Reinke anchored the defense with a match-best 16 digs while Danielle Schilawski added 10. Jeske and Jessica Wewers had three blocks apiece.

Alverno gets right back to league action tomorrow evening at Lakeland University. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
