MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College lost two nonconference home matches Saturday inside Reiman Gymnasium to a pair of opponents from the Midwest Conference.
The Inferno lost the morning match to Grinnell College, 3-0, before a 3-1 defeat to Beloit College in the afternoon.
Alverno stayed close with the Pioneers (6-7) in the first set yet fell 25-22, followed by 25-17 and 25-14 scores in the second and third.
The Inferno tallied 26 kills in the match, just one less than Grinnell's 27, but had 20 attack errors to the Pioneer's eight.
Versus the Buccaneers (7-6), another tight set opened the match as Beloit took the opener, 25-23. The Inferno evened the contest with a 25-20 win in the second, but the Bucs closed it out with 25-11 and 25-22 scores.
Alverno matched Beloit with a season-high 47 kills, led by Weyand's career-best 19 -- good for the fifth-most in team history. Jeske also put up her career high, 15, in the four-setter.
Sam Korn surpassed the 20-assist mark for the third time this season with 28, and Alyssa Reinke led all with her season-best of 17 digs. Weyand added 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.
