MILWAUKEE -- Though just a short jaunt across town, Alverno College picked up its first road win of the season, 3-1, versus host Mount Mary University Friday evening inside the Bloechl Center.
The visiting Inferno (3-14) dropped a tightly contested opening set to the Blue Angels (2-5), 25-22, before keeping the hosts under 20 the final three sets, 25-19, 25-14 and 25-16, for the season sweep.
Just as in the season opener -- a 3-0 Alverno victory on Sept. 1 -- the Inferno connected for 17 service aces. Cailey Jeske led the way with a team-best five aces while Jessica Wewers and Melissa Weyand added three apiece, and Alyssa Reinke, Sam Korn and Danielle Schilawski had two each.
Weyand posted a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs, both of which were match highs. Wewers and Jeske added nine kills while Reinke had 12 digs.
A quick turnaround and Alverno gets right back to action tomorrow with a pair of home duals. The Inferno hosts Grinnell College at 10 a.m. and Beloit College at 2 p.m. in Reiman Gymnasium.
