Minnesota Foes Down Inferno At Red Hawks Invite

RIPON, Wisconsin -- A pair of opponents from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference downed Alverno College at the opening day of the Red Hawks Invitational hosted by Ripon College Friday night inside Wyman Gymnasium.

Saint Mary's University defeated the Inferno 25-10, 25-7, 25-18 in the opening match while St. Catherine University topped Alverno 25-13, 26-24, 25-18.

Against the Cardinals (10-1) in the first match, the Inferno struggled on the attack as the team committed 19 errors compared to 15 kills.

Cailey Jeske and Melissa Weyand led Alverno with five kills apiece and Alyssa Reinke led the defense with 13.

Versus the Wildcats (7-4), the Inferno (2-11) showed improvement on offense with 23 kills, led again by Jeske and Weyand with nine each. Weyand also anchored the defense with a team-leading 11 digs.

Alverno continues play at the Red Hawks Invite Saturday against the University of Dubuque and host Ripon.
